Education is a fundamental part of the annual Uncommon Common Art (UCA) project. UCA works with area schools to promote love of the outdoors and visual art.

Dear Teachers and Principles,

This year the Uncommon Common Art project has raised funds in order to offer an art education opportunity to grades primary to 5 in King’s County Elementary Schools. We hope that your school may take advantage of this funding and have one of our professional artists visit your classrooms this fall. This is a great opportunity for Uncommon Common Art and Kings County elementary schools to work together to expose children to outdoor art.

Artist Terry Drahos has developed an art lesson that directly reflects this year’s Uncommon Common Art Project.  Many of this year’s installations were themed around birds, nests, and migration.  The children would explore birds and migration through creating bird stencils using both the positive and negative space of the cutouts.  For complete lesson plan see the attached PDF.  The lesson will take approximately 2.5 hours or a half school day.

In alignment with art programming such as ArtsSmart and PAINTS the day rate to bring in an artist is $250 per day plus supplies.  Costs for this project are $150 per classroom. Uncommon Common Art will cover 80% of this cost with each classroom contributing $30 for the half day art experience.

- The project is available up until October 30 to grades primary to 5 in Kings County.

- You must book two classes per day.

- Scheduling arrangements are made directly with Terry Drahos at tdrahos@mac.com

- Classes are available based on scheduling between September 15 and October 30.

Uncommon Common Art looks forward to making art with the children of King’s County.
